The floating lodge could accommodate a maximum of 30 guests at any one time. Hotel guests could sometimes catch a glimpse of black wolves, grizzlies and black bears. King Pacific Lodge with its 17 rooms offers an exceptional views of the wilderness and the ocean.
During spring time, the floating hotel is towed to the Royal Island in the north about 100 miles or 160 km away to escape the winter in the coastal town of Prince Rupert in anticipation of a warmer summer climate. Sometimes humpback whales could be spotted just a few feet away from the floating lodge in waters of Barnard Harbor. For those seeking for adventures, they can kayak to many of the uninhabited islands or to take a guided hike to the great peaks that are yet to be named. If one is lucky, rare Kermode “spirit bear” could be seen. These are black bears with white coat due to recessive gene.
King Pacific Lodge was designed by marine architects and was built on an old barge. The lodge interior was done by a Toronto based company using driftwood for the furnishing with unadorned wooden railings and overhead beams. Inside, great paintings by the local artists can be admired. With its isolated location, food supply of meat, vegetables and fishes are flown in weekly together with the arrival of the hotel guests. The hull of the barge acts as freezers and coolers for the storage of foods for the King Pacific Lodge. This is one lodge that should not be missed.
